Texas Small Town
Although Texas has a multitude of great places to visit, nowhere else in our Great State will you find the True Texas Experience of feeling at home, as you will in in Wharton.  Texas was named after the Indian word, "Tejas", which means friendship, and when in Wharton, Texas that small town friendship is a reality.   Pulitzer Prize winner and Playwright, of To Kill A Mockingbird, Horton Foote and TV News Anchor Dan Rather were residents of the Small Town of Wharton. Both were internationally known and have helped carve the history books of our nation. New play writes and news anchors can also claim Wharton as their hometown and boast about our low cost of living and down home hospitality.

Vast miles of blue skies and sunshine are part of Wharton’s ambiance so be sure to bring along a good sun screen when you chose to live here and enjoy our great outdoor and recreational activities. Winters here are mild, and it’s not unusual to see our friends dressed in summer attire in the middle of December!

Business ventures are welcomed as tourists join us by the bus load.  Featured stops include:

• 1889 Historic Wharton County Courthouse • Colorado River
• Morris Ranch and Carriage House Wharton County Historical Museum and 20th Century Technology Museum
