Texas was named after the Indian word, "Tejas", which means friendship, and when in Wharton, Texas that small town friendship is a reality. Pulitzer Prize winner and Playwright, of To Kill A Mockingbird, Horton Foote and TV News Anchor Dan Rather were residents of the Small Town of Wharton. Both were internationally known and have helped carve the history books of our nation. New play writes and news anchors can also claim Wharton as their hometown and boast about our low cost of living and down home hospitality.
